Iron Tracker 1.2

Iron Tracker offers graphical tools to enhance comprehension of hemochromatosis treatment. Hemochromatosis is a genetic disorder characterized by excessive absorption of dietary iron, resulting in dangerously high iron levels. Untreated, this condition can lead to various systemic issues ranging from fatigue, pain, and decreased overall well-being to severe damage and diseases affecting the liver, heart, and other organ systems. Treatment involves regular therapeutic phlebotomies — the extraction of blood from a patient — and is monitored by tracking hemoglobin and ferritin levels, an iron-carrying protein present throughout the body.

The Iron Tracker App provides patients with a centralized platform for monitoring treatment progress over a lifetime. It enables users to manage appointments, track bodily hemoglobin and ferritin levels, and visualize this data clearly to comprehend and share their progress with loved ones and healthcare professionals. Additionally, the app assists in monitoring phlebotomy appointments and associated details, empowering patients to better manage their lifestyle and well-being.

This application was developed collaboratively by faculty and students from two Canadian universities under the leadership of Dr. G. Grewal from the University of Guelph and Dr. A. Hamilton-Wright from Mount Allison University.
